Often people attempt to live their lives backwards: they try to have more things, or more money, in order to do more of what they want so they will be happier. The way it actually works is the reverse. You must first be who you really are, then do what you love to do, in order to have what you want.

This was part of the Inner Journey devotion today and I wanted to share. As things in our lives change, people come and go, it seems that we are always searching for the wrong things in the wrong places. It's typical to search outside ourselves, at material things or other people to try and find happiness, but it's a journey that will lead no where. This is something I have had to learn the hard way, always trying to be someone I'm not. Learning to love yourself is a hard task, especially if you've been masking your true self in order to appease others.
So now the challenge is remembering this every day and making sure that I model this for my beautiful daughter. It always reminds me of the poem, "I am me and I am okay," which is sometimes hard to say with the chaos of day-to-day life. The truth is, when I choose to be my "true self," these are the times when I'm the happiest and life falls into place around me.
